The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program (online) accepts students every 2 years. The next application cycle will open on September 15, 2024. Please check back at that time to register for Admissions Information Sessions.

The online Speech-Language Pathology (M.S.) Program is designed to provide a broad spectrum of academic and practicum experiences necessary for the education of specialists who deal with disorders of human communication and swallowing.

The online Speech-Language Pathology program is aligned with JMU's residential program, including the same standards and expectations for graduation. The academic and clinical components are consistent with the requirements for certification in speech-language pathology of the Council for Clinical Certification (CFCC) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and for health and education licensures in speech-language pathology by the state of Virginia. Applicants should complete prerequisite undergraduate course work in speech-language pathology and/or related areas of study prior to admissions to the online program.

The objective of the program is to allow individuals, particularly "career changers" and non-traditional students, to pursue a career in speech-language pathology. Admitted students progress as part of a cohort, and follow the curriculum as outlined. Academic coursework is offered online. Students will enroll in 2-3 courses per semester, over a three year period. Clinical requirements are met in accordance with ASHA Guidelines for Clinical Certification: https://www.asha.org/Certification/2020-SLP-Certification-Standards/

Students admitted to the online program should be aware that they will need to adjust their personal and/or professional schedules to accommodate clinical placements. Full time employment while enrolled in clinical placements may not be possible in all circumstances.
