Letters of Recommendation to Apply to Graduate-Level Professional Preparation Programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Effective March, 2005 undergraduate students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at James Madison University are asked to use the following procedures when requesting letters of recommendation from faculty members for applications to graduate-level professional preparation programs in audiology or speech-language pathology.
- Allow plenty of time between when you ask the faculty member and the program's application deadline. Application materials should be provided to the faculty member at least 4 weeks prior to the application deadline.
- Provide all application materials in a single packet to the faculty member that MUST include the following:
- A cover sheet, listing the programs to which the student is applying, application deadlines for each application, and any special instructions.
- One copy of student's resume for each program to which the student is applying. The resume will be sent to the school along with the letter of recommendation.
- One copy of student's academic transcript. This may be an unofficial transcript printed from e-campus.
- One stamped/addressed envelope large enough to accommodate both your resume and letter of recommendation for each program to which the student is applying. Letters that are being returned to the student in order to be sent to the school as part of a packet should have the student's name and the school to which the letter is being sent on the outside of the envelope (a stamp is not necessary).
- Gentle reminders to faculty are welcome, but harassing emails and phone calls are not positive ways to facilitate the process.
Appearing on JMU letterhead stationary, a form will be used by all CSD faculty in providing letters of recommendation for students applying to graduate-level professional preparation programs in audiology or speech-language pathology:
