The Speech-Language-Hearing Applied Laboratory
The Speech-Language-Hearing Applied Laboratory is part of the university's teaching, research and community services programs.
- It provides quality hearing, speech, and language clinical services to adults and children with communication disorders
- It supports research into communication disorders and clinical education of students
- It provides opportunities for supervised, quality clinical practicum experiences for speech-language pathology and audiology graduate students
- It serves as resource to the professions and to the local community through its various consulting services
In the Laboratory, as many as 60 children and adults who have a wide range of communication difficulties are served each week. Examples of some of the services and communication difficulties are:
- speech/articulation/phonology problems
- hearing problems
- child language impairments
- hearing aid needs and problem solving
- stuttering problems
- voice disorders
- neurological impairment and brain damage
- auditory processing difficulties
- accents, pronunciation, limited English proficiency, and intelligibility difficulties
- reading difficulties
- developmental disability
- noise-induced hearing losses
- communication problems related to autism
- augmentative & alternative communication needs
- developmental dyspraxia
