The PRL, which operates under the direction of
Dr. Halling, was established to support research on the impact that basic
auditory capabilities have upon speech understanding, particularly in the
elderly. A list of current interests and projects is found below.
The effect of linear and compression amplification on the modulation transfer
function.
Examination of the multiplicative properties of the m-index used in deriving
the Speech Transmission Index (STI).
Explore the predictive capabilities of the STI and regression equations
for speech recognition.
Comparison of new metric with conventional measures of auditory temporal
resolution.
Explore the accuracy of the Modified Power Law (MPL) predictions of actual
performance measures.
