The PRL, which operates under the direction of Dr. Halling, was established to support research on the impact that basic auditory capabilities have upon speech understanding, particularly in the elderly. A list of current interests and projects is found below.

  • The effect of linear and compression amplification on the modulation transfer function.
  • Examination of the multiplicative properties of the m-index used in deriving the Speech Transmission Index (STI).
  • Explore the predictive capabilities of the STI and regression equations for speech recognition.
  • Comparison of new metric with conventional measures of auditory temporal resolution.
  • Explore the accuracy of the Modified Power Law (MPL) predictions of actual performance measures.
