The cartoon below depicts a constructed cartography of human migration patterns. For example, in this cartoon boats of immigrants are equally close to both the Sydney Opera House, a landmark representing Australia, and the Statue of Liberty, a landmark representing the United States of America. Of course, Australia and the United States are not physical close to one another, but if the likelihood of immigration was similar for both countries, then they are, in terms of migration patterns, very “close” to one another.
