This interactive visualization shows spread of West-Nile virus across VA, seen on:

  1. a typical map,
  2. bar chart, or
  3. functional map (selected by tabs at the top).

First select the year (2002-5) and carrier (birds or bugs) of the epidemic from the two sets of “radio buttons” on the lower left and right, respectively.

Then move the slider right to “spread” the pandemic. Switch - between the three views (tabs), five years, and two vectors - once you have spread the disease, to see interesting changes. Watch the “shock waves” expand in the Functional Map view as you move the slider to see how the model works.
