JMU NSSLHA
The JMU chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) gives students better insight into the professional world of speech-language pathology and audiology. It provides opportunities for students to meet their peers and form relationships with their professors. NSSLHA works to educate students interested in communication sciences and disorders on topics related to the field.. NSSLHA believes the faculty is a very important influence on the students, and that students can make significant contributions to the faculty, as well. NSSLHA has begun offering more social events to include both students and faculty, fostering interaction in a relaxed environment.
While NSSLHA has historically focused primarily on undergraduate speech pathology and audiology, graduate students are welcome to join. The recently formed JMU chapter of the National Association of Future Doctors of Audiology (NAFDA) has brought new resources and opportunities for the undergraduate students to learn from the knowledge and experiences of the graduate students. Both NSSLHA and NAFDA encourage more communication among different groups within the department and make the learning experience at James Madison University more complete.
